Get your sheeping bag ready for Connemara

Connemara is possibly the most beautiful and unique landscape in Ireland, but....are there hidden dangers? Could you be mauled by an out of control sheep in the middle of the night? Or pecked to death by a magpie? Do you dare find out....

See the tour at our site:  http://trekr.io/tours/24-bear-grylls-sheeping-bag-trail-connemara.htm

"When the great survivor Bear Grylls got dropped in the middle the west of Ireland at least three miles from the nearest Eurospar or Centra hot food counter, he knew the value of the humble sheep in this treacherous environment. In these sheep, seen as a nuisance for years to the inhabitants of this dangerous land due to their disrespect for designated road crossings, Bear Grylls, or simply Bear, saw something different. He saw a path to survival, and fashioned one of these wondrous creatures - that had passed away from old age - into what he referred to as “a sheeping bag”. This kept his lower body warm and helped him survive until they had finished filming the scene and returned to his hotel.
With the above tale in mind, let us take a trip around Connemara, a strange and stoney landscape shaped by rustic fields, mountains, and stone walls, a paradise for mammals of the wooly variety. This trip will be through the mountainous North West of Connemara. But beware at all times of the dangers that loom. Domestic dogs, ferocious magpies and babbling streams make this a dangerous place to be. Be sure you are on the lookout and know where your nearest sheep is at all times..." [Full tour at Trekr.io]

8 stops for great beer around Dublin

We're big fans of craft beer at Trekr, which is why one of our first completed tours is a craft beer tour. This first one is around Dublin and we'll be adding more to this.

Any hard working developer has to relax over a good pint at the end of a hard day, but perhaps there are others that we've missed. We're always looking for ideas...

See the tour at our site:  http://trekr.io/tours/10-the-demon-drink-crafty-beer-tour.htm

"Like the eternal struggle of good versus evil, Ireland’s craft beer development will eternally struggle against the traditionalist argument that Guinness is the only stout in the world, that freezing cold cans of foreign sounding pilsner from your nearest petrol station is fancy beer, and that deliciously tasty craft beer is the drink of the devil himself. If however Satan is a demon with sophisticated tastes, then this last point may indeed be true. He is afterall not a huge fan of low temperatures so may not enjoy the freezing cold cans. Nonetheless, against all this pressure of convention, Dublin’s beery landscape has undergone a huge transformation over the last number of years where it’s likely now that you will find at least something that will tickle your fancy in most pubs and bars. It is worth noting however that some of these are the equivalent of the vegetarian option at a carvery, but hey, they’re trying, and we’re not here to talk about carvery dinners, are we? That’s over in the carvery dinner tour, obviously.
So what does Dublin have to offer, and what are we visiting today? Well, these are pretty much all pubs with the exception of one on-licence and a quick pop into an off-licence also, just because it’s on the way. The industry is still very much in it’s infancy in this country, so craft brewery tours are not yet commonplace..." [Full tour at Trekr.io]

A brief history....

Myself (Declan) and my brother Éanna, had the idea a while ago - too long actually - to build a tour guide application together. But not just boring standard tours, and not just a boring static app. This was going to be something fun and dynamic, with the ability for others to update content and add their experiences. After-all, we are just developers, and we believe everyone has some interesting information about their surroundings that deserve to be shared.

So we set upon the task of building this. I could go on about geeky web stuff, servers and protocols, but basically there is a website, and there is an app. And we've built the website...and the app is very much on its way.

Our website has an easy to use front-end overlaying google maps with the markers for areas of interest and routes for interesting tours. All the magic is taken care of in our system, so tours and attractions can be added and removed as easy as you can imagine. It's really as simple as that.

We've launched our website!

We've launched our new website with an app on the way very soon. Check it out, with a few images from the upcoming app:
